FFwD: Asparagus with Bacon Bits

I knew this recipe was going to be a good one. I love asparagus, and I don’t know how you can go wrong adding bacon to anything! I think I may have gone a little heavy with the lemon, but it was all delicious. I also chose not to invest in walnut oil, so I’m curious to see how that affected the flavor. I did cut up the bacon before I cooked it. I never understood cutting it after, this way everything cooks a bit more quickly.

I would definitely say this was a success at our house.

  1. I’m a fan of slicing before cooking too, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t? I really enjoyed this and I’m glad you did too!

  2. I think it’s easier cutting it before too.
Lovely job – and I don’t think you missed too much with the walnut oil. The bacon was what really made this one.

  3. LOL I didnt get it either, although it does say “crumble” which suggests not cutting it after anyways but oh well, I cut mine up prior to cooking also :)

  4. 5 years ago I would have ignored the walnut oil as well. But then Nigella introduced me to walnut oil and now I have dozens of favorite recipes which call for it and I always have a small bottle of it in my fridge. It is tasty, but the flavoring is subtle so I think that there is not a huge difference between it and olive oil.

  5. Yup – we agree that this one was an odds on favorite. I think we could actually add the bacon/onion combo to next week’s sardines to help the cause as well (they have magical qualities :) but I promise to go by the book. Nana gave this a thumbs up as well. Yay !

  7. I do like and use walnut oil, but I couldn’t really taste it in this one, so you didn’t miss anything. I read that a few people added toasted walnuts in lieu of the walnut oil which sounds really nice.

  8. I cut the bacon before cooking too! Another great set of photos!
