Today is the first day of school for us, which means that this morning I was up way earlier than I have been in months! The first day of school is pretty much the same as January 1st in my books. It’s a time to start fresh, make goals, and pretend like you’re going to be up and chipper this early every day from now on!
Since it is the first day, I had lunches prepared, orange juice and fresh chocolate croissants for breakfast (by fresh, I mean that I baked the frozen dough from Trader Joe’s!). At some point during the year I’m sure I’ll start going back to bed when the kids leave, but today I had something to prove, so dinner is also in the slow cooker! That’s right, it’s not even 9am, and I’ve got dinner made! I haven’t gotten dressed yet, but that seems less important!
Since today is the first day of school, last night we had our annual back to school dinner. We unveiled this year’s family theme which we got a couple of weeks ago watching the sports highlights on the news. Oddly enough, I thought I understood it until my husband explained to the kids at dinner! Oh well, we’re all on the same page now, and we’re ready to have a great year!
For dinner last night we had shrimp cocktail and carbonated orange juice (because at my house nothing says fancy like shrimp and fizz!). We also had chicken pasta and a delicious square for dessert. I’ll post the dessert recipe tomorrow. I think you might want to make this one. My husband said it was amazing, and he doesn’t joke about dessert!
I hope you all had a great back to school. Do you have any traditions that make this time of year special for your family?
