With Thanksgiving this week, there are bound to be lots of guests in and out. A few years ago, my kids took piano lessons from a friend of mine, and her house always smelled like magic. I couldn’t ever put my finger quite on what I was smelling. It was like everything you imagine fall smelling like all at once. It was apples and cinnamon with a hint of citrus, wrapped in a warm sweater! Every time I was at my friend’s house I was sure she was baking an apple crisp! When I finally begged her to tell my what it was, she handed me a jar of Spice Islands Mulling Spices along with a recipe. Instead of drinking the mulled cider she created a stove-top infuser that smells like heaven. There is something so soothing about this concoction, especially this time of year. There’s nothing like cozying up with a warm blanket, a good book and all the smells of a fall evening in Stars Hollow with your favorite Gilmore Girls!
To bring the magic to your home add a couple of tablespoons of mulling spices to a saucepan and add two cups of apple cider. Add a couple of orange slices and cinnamon sticks and bring to a simmer. When the liquid starts to get low just add more cider or some water. I promise you that when this is on the stove at our house you cannot tell that I have a house with six kids and a dog!
This also makes a perfect hostess gift if you’re spending the holidays at someone else’s house. Who wouldn’t love a home that smells like fresh baked goods without having to make a mess. If you’re looking to create an inviting feeling in your home, this is the way to make that happen.
